Why "branding cost" is really several different questions
A logo alone, a full visual identity system, and a complete strategy-plus-identity engagement are three different projects with three different price points - and most published "branding cost in India" figures blend all three into one misleading average. Before asking what branding costs, get clear on which of these three you're actually asking about.
What drives the price within each scope
For a logo or identity-only project, price is driven by how many design directions and revisions are included, and how experienced the designer or studio is. For a full strategy-plus-identity engagement, the bigger cost driver is the depth of strategic work - market research, positioning workshops, messaging development - before any visual design even starts.
Comprehensiveness matters too: a brand guideline covering just a logo and colors costs less than one covering a full system - typography, imagery style, tone of voice, application across packaging, social, and web.
Freelancer, boutique studio, or larger agency
A freelance designer is typically the most affordable route for a straightforward logo or light identity refresh, and can be a genuinely good fit when the brand strategy is already clear. A boutique studio costs more but brings both strategic thinking and design execution as one connected process, which matters most for startups building a brand from scratch. Larger agencies cost the most, often justified for bigger, more complex rebrands with many stakeholders and touchpoints to align.
How to avoid overpaying or under-scoping
Get specific about deliverables before comparing quotes - ask exactly what's included (number of concepts, revisions, file formats, guideline depth) rather than comparing headline numbers alone. A lower quote that's identity-only next to a higher quote that includes full strategy work aren't actually comparable proposals.
